Bradley Cooper set to direct remake of German comedy Kokowääh

Bradley Cooper could become the latest actor to go behind the cameras after signing on to star in and potentially direct a Warner Bros remake of the German blockbuster Kokowääh.
The original film starred actor-director Til Schweiger with his real-life daughter Emma Tiger Schweiger and was Germany’s biggest movie of 2011 at the box office. It centres on a carefree bachelor who discovers that his friend’s daughter may be his own biological child, resulting from a one-night stand eight years previously. The film’s title derives from a poor pronunciation of “coq au vin” by a German speaker.
Cooper, whose star has risen dramatically in Hollywood following his Oscar nomination for the offbeat romantic comedy Silver Linings Playbook, is to play the bachelor, who must juggle a relationship with his newly discovered daughter with the needs of his girlfriend and career. The film is also one of several options for Cooper’s directing debut
The project is based on a rewrite by Scott Rothman and Rajiv Joseph of an earlier draft screenplay by Chris Shafer and Paul Vicknair.
Cooper joins Ryan Gosling, Melissa McCarthy and Ellen Page on the list of Hollywood stars who have announced a move into directing, but he still has plenty of acting lined up, with roles in David O Russell’s conman drama about the Abscam sting operation run by the FBI, in The Hangover Part III and opposite Emma Stone in Cameron Crowe’s next romance.
Like the highly profitable Hangover series of films, Kokowääh has franchise potential. A sequel, Kokowääh 2, opened at No 1 at the German box office in February with Schweiger returning as director and star.
